Entry Information
There are two types of floats entered into the Battle - either paper or real flowers. Paper flowers are most popular as you will be able to take time to prepare the exhibit in advance and it will last beyond the days of the show.
The paper to make flowers is just standard tissue paper & can be sourced from lots of different places. Locally the office suppliers, Elite have always been helpful. Some exhibitors use the website Rajapack.co.uk or brightideascrafts.co.uk
In bulk, it tends to come in larger sheets on rolls. There is a bit of time needed to flatten out the sheets and cut it into the right size squares. I have attached a sheet which attempts to describe how to make flowers. If you need someone to do a little workshop session with you please just let us know and we can help out.
It can help to paint the background in the same colour as the flowers that you are going to stick onto it. This can boost the colour and help to maintain a consistent colour if there are little gaps between the flowers – this isn’t compulsory.
The North Show has a small supply of paper rolls should you need any last-minute sheets; please contact the battle co-ordinator should you need extra or decide to make a last minute float.
We will not be supplying glue for the tissue paper, other alternatives to use are double sided tape or PVA glue. Please contact us if you have any queries.
The Battle of Flowers takes place in the afternoon of the second day of the North Show, and the spectators can take part in judging the colourful floats, which are all competing for the coveted “Prix D’Honneur”. The Battle culminates in the evening illuminated cavalcade.
We hope you enjoy being a Battle of Flowers competitor, as always, any questions please contact battleofflowers@northshow.org.gg or find Abbie at the park on show days.
